Wall of Volunteering

The MYLead "Wall of Volunteering" includes brief descriptions of a variety of volunteer activities that MYLead Achievement Program (MAP) members have participated in. Activities for inclusion on the wall are a selected sampling of the many hours of service activities MYLead AP members track through MYLead.

Recently, I had the chance to attend the senior ball which is basically a prom for senior citizens. Each senior is given an escort or teen and they spend the day with them dancing, talking, and just having a great time. This year I had the chance to meet Della who I am pictured with here. It was the most wonderful experience I've ever had and the smiles on all the seniors faces made for a wonderful time.

I taught English to this summer to kids in Indonesia. They're at Ibu Nevi's house, a place where children too poor to receive private tutoring can get help with schoolwork and English three days a week after school. The kids are kind of cute (more like Stupendous, actually), but teaching them English--an inordinately complicated language when compared to simple and literal Indonesian--is quite a challenge, especially since I must teach in Indonesia, a language I myself hardly speak.
