Conference: Director of Group Facilitators
MY story
Growing up, Christina loved the feeling of being a part of a team. She always seemed to be at one function or another during her high school and college years, but the thing that she enjoyed above all else was volunteering. It wasn’t until her senior year in college that she discovered MYLead. She was introduced to the program by her good friend and MYLead board member Kaylee Hawkins, and she has loved being a part of this stupendous organization ever since. She has now been a part of MYLead for three years, serving as a group facilitator in 2008-09 and as the Director of Group Facilitators in 2010. Christina feels that the experiences that she has shared with the sophomores in her previous home groups have molded her into a better teacher, friend, and leader. Christina is volunteering with MYLead for her fourth year in 2011 and is very excited to see all of the exciting developments that are taking place for the program’s future students!
Leadership
Over the last three years, Christina has served as both a group facilitator and as the Director of Group Facilitators for MYLead. During her early college years, Christina worked as a shift leader for the serving staff at Montana’s Cookhouse in Auburn Hills. She was actively involved at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lake Orion for almost ten years as a musician for Sunday masses. Christina was also a group facilitator for a Bible study class at her church in Madison, Wisconsin, in 2009-10.
Employment
Christina recently graduated from Oakland University in May 2009 and worked as a long-term substitute Spanish teacher for Grades 6-8 at Phoenix Middle School in Delevan, Wisconsin. She is currently working toward her CELTA/TESOL certification for teaching English as a second language in Seville, Spain, and will be employed within Spain as an English teacher in October 2010.
Academics
Christina graduated with honors from Oakland University in May 2009. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Education and double majored in Language Arts and Spanish. She was a member of the Dean’s List for the School of Education from 2007 until she graduated in 2009 and is currently a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society. She graduated with honors from Notre Dame Preparatory High School in May 2004. Christina is currently taking a CELTA/TESOL course at the CLIC – International House in Seville, Spain, in order to obtain her certification in teaching English as a second language.
Daily Routine
Christina spends her weekdays attending classes and lesson planning for her students at the CLIC - International House. On week nights and on weekends, she enjoys roaming around Seville with her fellow student teachers and classmates, experiencing new and exciting aspects of the Spanish culture with every night that passes.
