MY Story

David has a passion for helping people realize their potential as leaders. David is currently a Doctoral Associate with the Institute for Innovative Leadership, and he has been involved in a wide range of community and professional endeavors.

Leadership

David has been very actively involved in planning and carrying out MYLead programs since MYLead began in 2002. This includes being a founding board-member of MYLead, serving as conference chairperson for four years, and serving as President of MYLead for over five years. David is also currently serving as vice-president of the National Society for Youth Leadership (NSYL), a national organization which serves as a catalyst in the development of programs such as MYLead across the country.

During his college years, David was very actively involved in the marching band, serving in leadership roles his junior and senior years. David was also a member of the honorary band service fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, where he helped to plan a wide variety of service and social activities for members of the marching band.

David was an active leader in many organizations in high school, serving multiple roles including National Honor Society president, Interact president, SADD treasurer, Class treasurer, and Video Production Executive Producer.

Employment

David is currently a researcher at the Institute for Innovative Leadership.  In this capacity, he has worked with many large organizations across the US to understand their management process and idea flow.  This has included strategy implementation at ten US hospitals as well as innovation and idea emergence at two large multinational organizations.  He has also authored or co-authored over a dozen academic articles and presentations on leadership and enabling people to reach their individual potential.  David is also an instructor of organizational theory and human resources at the collegiate undergraduate and graduate levels.

Additionally, David has over ten years of experience as an enterprise systems architect and administrator. In this role, David has worked to integrate, implement, and administer reliable and robust computing systems used by thousands of people each day to conduct mission-critical business at the University of Michigan. In addition to his work at the University, David is recognized in this profession as a Microsoft Certified System Engineer.

Academics

David is pursuing Ph.D. in leadership studies.  David earned an MBA in Management and Organizations from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, where he also earned a BBA in Computer Inforamtion Systems. David graduated with distinction (MBA) and class honors (BBA) and was recognized as a National Society of Collegiate Scholars Honoree.

David graduated magna cum laude from Kettering High School in Waterford, MI.

Service

During the past two decades, David has been involved in a number of youth development programs in Michigan. David feels privileged to have the opportunity to serve as president of MYLead, a year-round commitment of time and energy.

While in college, David participated in two Alternative Spring Break trips. The first involved working in the mountains of Kentucky repairing homes in an impoverished area; for the second he co-led a Habitat for Humanity project in North Carolina. Through his involvement in Kappa Kappa Psi, David also volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Mott's Children Hospital and University of Michigan Dance Marathon fundraiser.

In 2009, David was recognized with the U.S. Presidential lifetime achievement award in community service, having completed over 4,000 hours of voluntary service.

Additional

David enjoys to travel, having visited over three dozen countries on six continents.  He is also an avid runner, consistently placing in 97th percentile in 8K and 10K races.
